About Tevi Troy

As stated on his website biography, Tevi Troy is "one of only a handful of historians who has both studied the White House and worked there at the highest levels." Troy's career included working several years in the White House under multiple position during the Bush Administration in the early 2000's. He also works as the appointed Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Beyond government institutions, Troy has written numerous newspaper and journal articles and is a frequent correspondent of Fox News, CNBC, and CNN. He has published another full length book--"Intellectuals and the American Presidency: Philosophers, Jesters, or Technicians?"--which also revolves around the history of the U.S. presidency.

Troy clearly has many years of both personal experience as well as historical research under his belt, which comes across in his newest book. However, without knowing any of Troy's background, it is quite clear through the book's text alone that he identifies with the Republican Party. One such hint occurs on page 244 when Troy states that the "entertainment industry itself sees Republicans as an enemy," suggesting that modern media is biased and unfairly targets the Republican Party. Earlier in the book, Troy's language makes it seem that he is defending George W. Bush in reference to some of his more controversial actions.

Overall, the book comes across as treating presidents of each political party equally, but Troy's affiliation with the Republican Party definitely comes across in the book and it is important to consider these affiliations and how they might affect the arguments presented whilst reading.
